Maddest Mini engine swap ever!
The Mini D is the sensible, frugal and efficient option in the new MINI range. A diesel powered Mini was never available in 1959, especially a diesel engine with 3500 brake horsepower. What you see here may be the maddest engine swap in history.
We are used to seeing old Mini’s with Honda VTEC engines plopped in the front, but I have never seen a V18 monster with a capacity of 78 litres and 12 turbochargers put in an original Mini. Taken from a dumper truck, the QSK78 engine produces 14,000 Nm of torque. To put that in perspective the original Mini made do with just 80 and was still fun. One drawback of this madness is weight, and a lot of it.Weighing in at an Andy Fordham worthy 11 tonnes the only place this Mini will be going is sinking downwards in to the mud. If you want to see a 3500bhp Mini stuck in the mud, it can be found at this week’s Goodwood Festival of Speed.
