British International Motor Show: CANCELLED

The economic downturn is overruling again as it has been announced that the 2010 British International Motor Show has officially been cancelled. Car company chiefs from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) who organise the show say: “The economic downturn and the unprecedented challenges facing the industry both in the UK and around the world, have made it impossible for exhibitors to commit to a 2010 event.”
The British Motor Show has always been an asset to the UK for showcasing the best new cars of the time, like the Jaguar XK120 which was the Bugatti Veyron of the day. But not only that, the show has always been an event which you can take the kids to or introduce people who are not normally interested in cars to as a day out. It was the parent petrol head’s saviour.
The UK hasn’t been the only Motor Show to suffer at the hands of the financial crisis. This years Detroit auto show saw Nissan, Infiniti, Mitsubishi, Suzuki, Rolls-Royce, Land Rover, Ferrari, and Porsche pull out, the largest number of non-returning automakers in the shows history.
With all these cancellations how are automakers going to show off their latest pieces of metal? Viral Youtube videos? Who knows, but all we hope is that the British International Motor Show is back soon, as it is an excuse to take the kids out.
