Incoming: Honda Civic

Honda have had a funny few years. After we got over the initial futurism of the last Civic we weren’t massively blown away. Then we were then told that the Type R was dead and were left wondering if Honda will ever produce a new car that lives up to their massive international following. Yes, the CR-Z offered a breath of fresh air, but we want another great Civic.

According to the latest development video, the next Civic, which is set to be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month, has jumped two generations. Now I don’t really know how you can skip a generation without releasing it to the public, but the testers assure us that they have spent more time in Europe than ever before. “Every time we visited Europe during the development of the car, we achieved significant improvements in the ride and handling, tuning the car for the local demands,” said Kazuo Sunaoshi, Chassis Development Leader.

We don’t know what the new Civic will look like as it is currently covered in camo, but what we do know is that it adopts a new compact torsion beam to increase cabin space but maintain a decent ride quality at the same time. To improve body control and stability at high speeds, the wall thickness of the torsion beam and the diameter of the stabiliser bar have been increased. Drivers have flexibility when driving on different road surfaces as the ride comfort and handling have been developed through the introduction of new fluid-filled compliance bushings to the rear suspension system.

Will these developments bring back some of the zing that past Civics had? Well, we will just have to wait and see when they pull back the camo at Frankfurt next month.

Until then, you can check out what the developers have been up to in the video below or find more info here.
