Ode to salt

If you find yourself in Utah this week, I recommend getting on the I 80 and heading roughly 88 miles west of Salt Lake City. On your arrival you will be greated by a very special event - Bonneville Speed Week.

Speed week is when an eclectic mix of hot rods, roadsters, belly tankers, lakesters, motorcycles, streamliners, and diesel trucks rock up to “shoot the salt”. What this means is that a punch of petrolheads come to one of the most magical places in the world, strap themselves into their cars and try to go fast - really fast. Why do they do it? Partially because they are mentally insane but they mainly because they want their names to be added to the list of many record holders who have left their mark in the salt.

We will try and keep posted on this year’s event via our Twitter feed and one day we will make the trip ourself to experience the salt first hand. If you are on Twitter, I recommend following Richard Meaden for a unique insight to what really goes on in the middle of nowhere. With the help of Skoda,  Dickie is trying to crack 200mph in a 600hp Skoda Octavia vRS and the fastest Skoda ever. We wish him and everyone taking part in the event all the best and be safe on the salt.
